Numerical Investigation of Vortex-Induced Vibrations of a Rotating Cylinder near a Plane Wall

Numerical simulations are carried out to investigate the vortex-induced vibrations of a two-degree-of-freedom (2DOF) near-wall rotating cylinder. Considering effects gap ratio, reduced velocity and rotational rate, amplitude response, wake variations fluid forces analyzed, with Reynolds number 200 mass ratio set 1.6. The correlative mechanism in wake–hydrodynamics–vibration is revealed. results show that influence wall dominates vibration effect on weakens as increases, negligible when H/D > 1.1. forward rotation cylinder enhances effect, while backward presents reverse effect. suppressed 0 < α 1, range concentrated at Vr ∈ (3, 5). mode can be divided into five modes, modes clarified under different rates velocities.
